A Long, Hot Summer
Dear Editor,
It is very true that this summer will be a heck of a problem. “Mayors across the country are rightly worried about Congress’s failure to provide money for the summer jobs that keep teenagers off the streets while giving them sorely needed work experience.” I believe that this summer might be a violent one because teenagers these days are very appalling. Jeze oh Weez! What I also realized about your editorial, “A Long, Hot Summer”, is that the jobs teenagers once toke for granted that are now unable to get a job began years before the recession even came about. I didn't believe it at first, but when I kept on reading, the proof of evidence was right there in front of me. I was very shocked to know that the year-round employment rate for teenagers fell from over 45 percent in 2000 to about 26 percent in March. I was even more stunned to know that this summer employment rate for teenagers dropped below 33 percent in 2009. That is a lot of people if you think about all the people in the U.S.! I just hope the economy will get back on its feet again to make things right.
